In an effort to help educate our community and our customers we are going to blog a couple of simple articles regarding mold growth, mold prevention, and how mold remediation projects are executed. 1. Mold can grow within 48-72 hours of the initial water problem.
2. Remember that every mold problem is a water problem first.
3. When indoor air sampling is conducted, the number of mold spores inside should be less than the number of mold spores outside.
4. The best means of preventing mold is to deny the spores the moisture necessary for germination.
5. All mold remediation projects are performed the same way regardless of species type.
6. If you find visible mold on soft (upholstered furniture, mattress, pillows, etc) goods follow this rule: “when in doubt, throw it out.”
7. Mold is an allergen whether it’s dead or alive.
8. Mold will come back no matter how well you clean, if the area is allowed to become moist or wet again!
9. Damage due to mold is largely preventable
10. Due to the porous nature of drywall, it must be removed and disposed if visible mold growth is evident.
11. If the relative humidity in your home exceeds 60% it significantly increases the risk of mold growth.
12. Mold growth presents the greatest health risks to infants, elderly and people with compromised immune systems.
